The Clarington Board of trade is saddened by the passing of long-time CBOT member Hannu Halminen, a respected builder and true pillar of our community.
A Clarington resident for nearly 70 years, Hannu truly loved his community and believed deeply in giving back to the place that welcomed his family. As a builder, Hannu helped shape the Clarington we know today, creating neighbourhoods where thousands of families now call home.
In 2011 CBOT proudly recognized Hannu as Person of the Year for his leadership and selfless contributions. One remarkable example was the 2010 "5 Day Build" for the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation, where Hannu led a community effort to build a home in 5 days and actually completed the build in just three days, raising $400,000 for the hospital's critical care unit. As Hannu said at the time: "We got 'er done."
Now, in Hannu's memory, members of the community are coming together once again to support the rebuild of Bowmanville Hospital, funding a piece of critical equipment in his honour. Each donation helps carry forward Hannu's legacy and ensures the new hospital can care for patients and families for years to come.
We invite CBOT members and the broader business community to continue the inpact Hannu had on the place he loved. Let's "get 'er done" and continue to support our hospital and our community!
