Remembering Hannu Halminen
A true gentleman and a gifted pilot, Hannu brought energy, enthusiasm and kindness to everyone around him. He cared deeply about his community and fostered a space where people felt welcome, connected and inspired.
We will always remember him at the annual Hawkefield Barnyard Fly-In. Watching him pull his beautiful Mustang out of the hangar early in the morning before visitors arrived was something truly special. At the end of the day, many would gather to watch as he took the event draw winner up for a flight in his Mustang. That powerful takeoff became a tradition we all looked forward to. One of our fondest memories is a story he shared with us, one we will always carry.
We will look up to the skies and think of him flying in with his beautiful yellow Harvard at the Stanhope Fly-In. Those moments perfectly captured who he was, both as a pilot and as a person.
Our thoughts are with Karen, his family and his friends during this difficult time.
Rest gently and fly high, Hannu. You are and always will be missed by us and by so many.
